There's More to Life Than We Know. So What is it?
If you had told me five years ago that I would be doing this, I'd have said you were nuts!
I am a writer, speaker and educator. I am also a retired politician. “Retired” is the key word here. I always considered myself rational and pragmatic. As a matter of fact, my favorite Star Trek character was always Spok, due to his relentless and unyielding logic. In addition, I was a big fan of the “Amazing” James Randi, known for his skepticism and exposure of grifting charlatans. So why, now, am I writing a blog about an awakening and spirituality?
Well, it took years and years of experiences; experiences which defied logic and were, according to people like Randi and others of his sorts, not supposed to happen. If they did happen, well, you just brushed it off and moved on; ignoring the incident and avoiding ANY ramifications whatsoever the said incident may have evoked. Let’s say it is like that relentless salesperson who never gave up and kept trying to sell you something for years before you relented and bought what he was selling. That’s my story.
In short, I decided to start this blog for several reasons. As it was, I was a columnist in my local area newspaper for ten years. I have also written a few books. So, I like to write. I also love to teach and am an educator at heart. But what I realized and have begun to realize more is that most people who go about their daily lives probably have a bunch of questions that manage to knock on the doors of their mind. Questions such as: What is Consciousness? What is a Soul? Does it exist? Why can’t someone prove it? Is there more to life than we know and have been told? If so, what? And who built all of those unbelievable Ancient Monoliths? Are ghosts real? Is there life after death? Are UFOs real? And apparently, the government now says so, so we can scratch that off the list. I’m old enough to remember when people who believed in UFOs were the crazy people; the “tinfoil hat folk” as we were told.
To this day, I have never seen a “UFO”. I also have never seen an actual ghost (Well, sort of…maybe…more on that in the future). I’ve never had telepathic conversations with Aliens. And I have never had a Spirit Guide appear in my room in the middle of the night. I’d probably have had a heart attack, anyway. To even mention these topics several years ago would have seemed preposterous. So what happened? And if I didn’t see or experience any of these things. why am I writing a blog about Spirituality?
I believe that most people think about these exact same things and ask these same questions. And, like most people, I grew up thinking that people older than I, or those in positions of authority, had the answers; teachers, parents, professors, the media, scientists, government and, yikes, politicians! But over the years, all of those sources each died a slow death in my eyes in terms of answers. I find that most people only know what they were told by those before them. And the only reason people believe things is because people told them they were true. We then do the same to the next generation.
One thing has become apparent to me and probably most thinking people. Everything in this world is corrupt. Everything! Every single solitary institution! Starting with governments, then banking, education, medical, media, corporate and sadly, even scientific. It’s not that they started off that way. They became that way. Most everyone I know who is semi-conscious sees this. So how does this reality cause me to become a Spiritual person? Well, as I said, years of knocking at my door. Too many to write about now, but I will write about them in future posts. But all of this pushed me to finally relent and say, “Ok! You’ve gotten my attention. So now what?”
The “Now what?” is the process I’d like to share. I think that one of the obstacles toward becoming a Spiritually-minded Being is that there is no one way. And, you know, we always want to be told “This is the way!” We look to others to provide the proof; the roadmap so to speak. But it doesn’t work that way. We think it is complicated, but it actually is so easy a child can do it. That, too, dissuades us because something so profound cannot be easy, right?
In essence, the teacher in me wants to share what has worked for me, helped me and the insights I have discovered into life and how it works. These are not answers, as I obviously do not have them. Instead, these are principles and anecdotes from which I think most people can benefit. No robes, no crystals, no chants or incense. Those are fine if that’s your thing, but real, true Spirituality in one’s life comes from real, true application of principles. How you apply those principles are up to you, the individual.
So I thank you for taking the time to read. I look forward to connecting with so many of you and sharing my insights and experiences in the hope that those who want to grow Spiritually, but never thought they would, can realize that you do not need a Guru or a Robe with Sandals to discover the Sovereign, Eternal Soul that you are!
